A Sports Camp (or instructional clinic) is one that:
  • Places special emphasis on a particular sport or sports and provides specialized instruction or practice, and may include competition;
  • Involves activities designed to improve overall skills and general knowledge in the sport; or
  • Offers a diversified experience without emphasis on instruction, practice or competition in a particular sport.

An Institutional Camp (or clinic) is any camp in which prospective student-athletes participate that is owned or operated by Virginia Tech or an employee of the Virginia Tech Athletics Department. The location of an institutional camp may be either on- or off-campus.

A Prospective Student-Athlete ("prospect") is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade. In addition, a student who has not started classes for the ninth grade becomes a prospective student-athlete if the institution provides such an individual (or the individual's relatives or friends) any financial assistance or other benefits that the institution does not provide to prospective students generally.
